Expanded Art Center Opens at Rhode Island College

Converted from its original use as a library and dining hall, Rhode Island College’s Art Center was cramped, lacking in natural light, and had health and safety deficiencies.

Schwartz/Silver’s transformation replaced portions of the original building with a new structure that provides abundant natural light and state of the art ventilation and safety systems. A two story addition, with the second floor clad in copper, faces the main entrance to the campus.

The state-of-the-art facility, now Alex + Ani Hall, provides new art studios, computer classrooms, faculty offices, photography labs, a lecture hall, lounge and presentation spaces, and ceramics and sculpture courts, and centralizes an art program that was previously scattered across campus.
