Gleason Public Library
Carlisle, MA
Schwartz/Silver was engaged by the Town of Carlisle to perform a design and feasibility study of an interior renovation of 11,500sf of the existing library building (original from 1896 with an addition & renovation from 2000) which transformed circulation, teen & adult reading spaces, meeting rooms, staff spaces, and life safety. Study included in-house production of renderings. The selected design solution included demolition of an existing central open stair which improved staff presence on the ground floor and improved visibility to all corners of the public collections from the newly centralized circulation desk. A replacement communicating stair was introduced in a different location that improves acoustics between floors.
Following a 3 year pause for fundraising, Schwartz/Silver was re-engaged to proceed with full design services for the renovation through Construction Administration.
